What tabletop systems does Storywright support?

Accepted Answer

Any of them. Storywright is system-agnostic — we don't ship rules, stat blocks, or dice, so you can run D&D 5e, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, Blades in the Dark, Mothership, a homebrew, or anything else, and the tool gets out of your way. If your system has notes, NPCs, and sessions, Storywright fits.

Can I import from Kanka, World Anvil, Notion, or Obsidian?

Not at launch. Honestly, export from those tools today is mostly manual copy-paste, and we didn't want to ship an importer that quietly mangled your data. Automated imports for Kanka and World Anvil are on the v2 list. In the meantime, we'll help you bring over anything you need — email hello@storywright.io if you're moving a big world and we'll make sure nothing gets lost.

Is there a mobile app?

Not at launch. The web app is mobile-responsive, so it works on a phone or tablet in a browser — journals, Story Arcs, and shared world pages are the things players tend to pull up mid-session, and those all work. A dedicated mobile app is on the roadmap but isn't blocking launch.

Is Storywright a virtual tabletop?

Accepted Answer

No. Storywright doesn't do maps, tokens, dice, or initiative. Use Foundry, Roll20, Owlbear Rodeo, or whatever VTT you already like — Storywright sits beside them, not on top of them. We're the GM's notebook and the player's memory; they're the virtual table.

What about character sheets?

Also not our job. Use D&D Beyond, your system's official sheet, or a plain PDF. Character mechanics change every edition and every system — we'd rather do one thing well than do ten things badly. Storywright handles the story around the sheets.

Can my group try it out first?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The free tier is a real tier, not a trial — no credit card, no countdown. Start a world, invite two players, run a session. If it clicks, upgrade. If it doesn't, no harm done.

What do my players actually get out of it?

Accepted Answer

More than a place to take notes. Players browse the parts of the world you've shared, keep their own private annotations on any NPC or place, and write journal entries the table can read — the shared memory that ends "wait, who was that again?" When you publish a session recap, each player gets a "previously on…" briefing so nobody shows up cold. And every player can set goals for their character — what they're chasing, who they want to become — which flow up to you as a GM to quietly weave into the story and pay off later. It's built so the player's side of the table has a reason to open it between sessions, not just the GM's.

Why does GM Pro cost $9 a month?

Because you're not buying it for yourself — you're buying it for your whole table. Your players are free on every plan, forever. One GM pays; four to six people get the full experience. Split across the table, that's less than a Coke per week per person. Compare that to the per-seat pricing most collaboration tools charge and the math flips hard in our favor.

Is there an annual billing option?

Yes. GM Pro is $90/year — that's two months free compared to paying monthly. The annual price is locked in at signup; if we raise prices later, your renewal stays at what you paid. Switch between monthly and annual any time from your billing portal.

Question 10

Can I pause my subscription between campaigns?

Accepted Answer

There's no pause button right now — cancellation stops the next charge and keeps you on GM Pro until the billing period ends, then drops you to Free. Your data is fully preserved. Start a new campaign, come back, and resubscribe when you're ready. We won't charge you for the quiet months.

Do you offer discounts for schools, clubs, or large groups?

Not via a self-serve flow at launch — but email hello@storywright.io and we'll figure something out. Game clubs, school groups, and convention GMs who run multiple tables are exactly who the tool is built for.

Is my world data private?

Accepted Answer

Yes, by default. Every world item, journal, and story arc starts private. As the GM, you choose what to share with your players, per item. Nothing is public to the wider internet unless you explicitly make it so — and at launch, that option isn't even on the table. Private means private.

Question 13

What happens if I stop paying for GM Pro?

Accepted Answer

Your data is preserved in full. You drop to free-tier limits for new items — you won't lose anything you've already created, and existing worlds keep working. Come back any time and pick up where you left off.

Question 14

Where is my data stored?

Accepted Answer

On Railway, in a PostgreSQL database, in a US region. Daily backups. If you're in the EU and that's a blocker for you, tell us — we'd like to know before we plan the next region.

Can I export my data?

Accepted Answer

Yes — full JSON export, on every plan, including Free. Your world is yours; we're a place you keep it, not an owner of it.

This is great — what are you working on next?

Accepted Answer

Two big directions. First, the players. The GM's side is strong; now we're making the player's side something worth opening between sessions — a player home built around their character, calendar invites so the next session lands in their calendar, a nudge when you publish a recap, and a character sheet they own and keep current. Second, getting your world in. An import path so a GM mid-campaign can bring an existing world over — Markdown today, Kanka and World Anvil next — instead of starting from a blank page. A better phone experience for players at the table runs alongside both. None of this is locked, though — what our customers tell us matters most is what shapes the next major release. We'd love to hear from you.

Can I shape what gets built?

Yes — and we mean it. The roadmap above came straight out of talking to real GMs at real tables. Email hello@storywright.io with what your table needs — the bug that bit you, the gap you keep hitting, the thing you wish it did. Founding GMs get a direct line to the developer, but every email gets read. The features that ship next are the ones tables actually ask for.
